Fixing a PDF That Got Assembled in the Wrong Order

It happens more often than it should: a document assembled from multiple sources ends up with the conclusion before the introduction, or a scanner saves pages in reverse order, or a cover page lands at the end. Reordering fixes all of this without recreating the document from scratch. Our free online PDF page organizer lets you drag and drop individual page thumbnails into the correct sequence, then download a perfectly ordered PDF — all inside your browser, with no desktop software needed.

How the Thumbnail Grid Works

Upload your PDF and each page appears as a numbered card in a responsive grid. The number displayed on each card reflects its current position in the output — not its original page number. Drag any card to a new position and the grid reflows around it in real time. Each card also has a ↻ rotate button (rotates 90° clockwise per click) and a ✕ delete button to remove that page from the output. Use Reverse All in the header to instantly flip the entire page order. When the arrangement looks right, click Save Reordered PDF.

Three Operations in One Session

  • Reorder: Drag thumbnails to rearrange pages into any sequence — fix scanning order, move a cover page, reorganize chapters
  • Rotate: Fix individual pages scanned in the wrong orientation without opening a separate tool — combine this with our dedicated Rotate PDF tool if you need more rotation options like 180° or 270°
  • Delete: Remove blank pages, duplicate pages, or pages that do not belong — if you need to pull pages into a separate document instead of just deleting them, use our Extract Pages tool

Situations Where Reordering Comes Up

  • Back-to-front scans: A stack of papers placed face-down in a scanner often comes out in reverse — use Reverse All to fix it in one click
  • Misplaced cover page: A title page accidentally merged at the back can be dragged to position 1
  • Combined documents with incorrect sequence: After using Merge PDF to combine multiple files, use Reorder to fine-tune the page sequence if needed
  • Executive summary repositioning: Move the conclusions section to the front for a board presentation
  • Alternate-page scans: Some scanners produce odd pages then even pages separately — interleave them with drag-and-drop

Output Is Identical in Quality to the Input

Reordering, rotating and deleting pages all operate on the PDF's structure — not its content. No page is re-rendered, resampled or recompressed. The text on each page remains fully selectable and searchable. Images retain their original resolution. File size changes reflect only the pages added or removed, not any quality change.

No Upload — Fully Private

The entire reordering process runs locally inside your browser tab using pdf-lib. Your PDF is never transmitted to ToollyX or any external service. This makes the tool safe for confidential documents — legal files, financial statements, HR records — that must stay on your device.
