"What's your IP?" is one of the most common opening lines in remote support, and almost nobody has the answer memorized. It isn't the number sitting in your Wi-Fi settings β that one only means anything inside your own home. The number that matters here is the one your router presents to the rest of the internet, and it's the same number every device on your network shares. This page detects it the moment it loads, alongside the city, ISP and network details tied to it.

Where the Extra Panels Come From
Underneath the big number, a public geolocation registry is doing the actual work β matching your address against records of which ISPs and organizations own which blocks, then handing back a country, city and network name. A second, separate check runs just for IPv6, since plenty of connections still don't have it turned on at all. The browser and device panel doesn't call out to anywhere β it's just reading what your own browser already knows about itself and showing it back to you in one place.
Why Your Router's Settings Page Shows a Different Number
Open a router's admin page and it's common to find an IP that looks nothing like the one this page just showed β something like 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.5. Both numbers are real, they just answer different questions. Addresses starting with 192.168, 10, or 172.16 through 172.31 are private ranges, reserved for use only inside a local network and never routed across the open internet. Your router uses one to talk to devices in your home, then translates all of their traffic behind a single public address β the one this page detects β before anything leaves for the wider internet. That's also the reason every device on the same Wi-Fi shares an identical result here: phone, laptop and smart TV all funnel through the same router, and from the internet's point of view, they're indistinguishable.
Two Ways This Actually Gets Used
IT departments lock down VPNs, databases and admin panels to a short list of approved IP addresses β before they'll add you to that list, they need the exact number, not a guess at which of several values in your network settings is the right one. This page gives you that number directly, nothing to interpret.
The other common case is a webhook or API that's gone quiet. Before assuming the other side is broken, check your own IP first, then compare it against whatever range the sender publishes. Making the Privacy Features Actually Useful
- Flip on Privacy Mode before you start screen sharing β the IP blurs instantly, so it never lands in a recording or a support screenshot that has to be cropped afterward.
- Run the WebRTC leak test after your VPN connects, never before. A leak only matters in the state you're actually browsing in day to day.
- A "private/local network IP" turning up in that test is normal. What actually signals a leak is a public IP that doesn't match your VPN provider at all.
- Check IPv6 on its own terms β some VPNs only tunnel IPv4, quietly leaving IPv6 traffic exposed outside the tunnel entirely.

When the Number Looks Off
A VPN that's "connected" but shows no change in IP is usually a split-tunnel setting excluding the browser, or a connection that quietly failed β reconnect, confirm it's actually active, then hit Auto-Refresh here. A city that looks nowhere near you is almost always a mobile carrier or corporate ISP routing through a regional gateway rather than a local one; the registry data is doing exactly what it's supposed to, it just isn't precise at that level. And if IPv6 never shows up at all, that's simply a connection that doesn't have it enabled β there's nothing broken to chase down.
None of this is built for legal evidence, precise physical tracking, or scoring an IP against threat intelligence at scale.
