Include Today β Two Valid Counting Conventions
The Include Today switch addresses a genuine ambiguity. If you quit smoking on June 1 and today is June 8, are you on day 7 or day 8 of being smoke-free? Both answers are defensible β it depends on whether you count the start date as day zero or day one. The convention for holiday countdowns ("Christmas is in 14 days") typically excludes today. The convention for personal milestone streaks often includes it. The switch lets you use whichever convention matches your purpose, without having to fudge the date itself.
A Quick Example: Two People, Same Date, Different Answers

Day 100 of anything feels different from day 97 or day 103, even though the underlying achievement is nearly identical β humans are pattern-seeking, and round numbers act as natural checkpoints worth pausing on. Why the Result Also Shows Total Hours and Minutes
Both today and the target date are normalized to midnight before any math runs, so the day count itself is never affected by what time it happens to be right now β Total Hours and Total Minutes are the same day count simply re-expressed in a smaller unit (days Γ 24, days Γ 1,440), not a separate, more time-of-day-precise measurement. That's still genuinely useful on its own: an SLA written in hours, a rate limit or booking window quoted in minutes, or a system that logs everything in Unix-style time units all need the figure in that unit rather than days, and converting a day count to hours by hand is one more place a stray multiplication error can creep in during a stressful deadline calculation.

Why Not Just Count on a Wall Calendar?
Counting by eye works fine for anything under two or three weeks, and falls apart quickly beyond that. Cross a month boundary and you have to remember whether the month you're leaving has 28, 30, or 31 days. Cross a February in a leap year and the count shifts by one in a way that's easy to forget entirely. How the Calculation Works
Both today and the target date are set to midnight to eliminate any time-of-day effect, then the difference is computed in milliseconds and rounded to the nearest whole day. Rounding β rather than flooring β ensures daylight-saving transitions, which can make a calendar day technically 23 or 25 hours long, never cause an off-by-one error. Weeks are an integer division by 7 with the remainder shown separately. Approximate months use the mean Gregorian month length of 30.44 days; approximate years use 365.25 days to account for leap years. Business days are counted using the standard MondayβFriday work week.
