Two Ways to Set the Same Two Numbers
Every trim ultimately comes down to two numbers β a start time and an end time β and this tool deliberately gives you two different ways to set them rather than forcing one. The waveform itself updates live as you drag, too β the selected region stays visibly highlighted in green against the rest of the track, so it's always obvious at a glance what's about to be kept or removed before you commit to anything. Clicking anywhere outside the current selection jumps playback straight to that point, which doubles as a fast way to scrub through a longer file and find the right spot before placing a marker there.
Cutting Out the Middle Without a Click
Keep Selection is the trim everyone expects β throw away everything except the part between the markers. Remove Selection solves a genuinely different problem: a five-minute recording with one ten-second cough in the middle doesn't need everything around it discarded, it needs just that one section gone and the rest joined back together seamlessly.
The seamlessly part is what actually makes this useful rather than just technically possible. Two arbitrary points in a waveform almost never line up smoothly when spliced directly together β the sample values jump, and that jump is audible as a sharp click or pop. A short automatic crossfade at the join blends the tail of what comes before into the head of what comes after, the same technique real audio editors use for any edit point, so the result sounds like one continuous recording rather than two pieces taped together.
Editing in Passes, Not Just Once
Clicking Apply doesn't just prepare a download β it commits the edit as the new working version of the file, redraws the waveform to match, and immediately lets you select and edit again. A recording with three separate problems β a slow start, a cough halfway through, and dead air at the end β gets handled as three quick passes: trim the start, remove the cough, trim the end, each one working on the result of the last rather than requiring you to somehow select three disconnected regions in one operation.
Reset to Original stays available the entire time specifically as a safety net β the very first decoded version of whatever you uploaded is kept untouched in memory no matter how many edits follow, so a trim that turns out wrong is never more than one click from being undone completely, not just the most recent change.
Fading In and Out on Purpose
A fade isn't just a cosmetic flourish β it's solving a specific, physical problem. A waveform cut at a random point almost never starts or ends exactly at silence, which means the very first or last sample of the trimmed clip can sit well away from zero, and jumping straight from silence to that value (or from it to silence) is what produces an audible click. Ramping the volume from zero over even a tenth of a second gives the ear no sharp edge to notice, which is why professional edits almost never cut directly into or out of a sound without at least a short fade.
The two switches apply independently and share one duration control, so a clip that starts on a natural pause but ends mid-word only needs Fade Out turned on β there's no requirement to fade both ends just because one of them needs it.
